Buckley & MacHale are two multi-faceted songwriters who came together in 2016 to form a brand new act.
Having enjoyed successes with their respective solo albums, ‘The Ever Changing Colours of the Sea’ and ‘Let Down Those Old Defences’, the duo are now performing a unique brand of haunting synth and vocals with elements of Kate Bush, trip hop, and the classical renaissance.
The Electronic Folk is their monthly evening of new live music.
For those of you who have been tuning into JukeboxConnect over the last few weeks – you will have noticed that the site has regretfully been inactive.
For that, I apologise to all of you who have supported and subscribed to the site.
Unfortunately, life and other priorities got in the way and JukeboxConnect had to take a back seat.
Down But Not Out – Yet
So here’s the story.
Managing a website like JukeboxConnect takes time if it’s to be done properly. While I had enough time earlier in 2016 – as the year progressed and a man has to earn a shilling, I began to find that I had less and less time available.
Eventually, I reached out in the hope of finding some aspiring writers or others who might be able to help keep the show on the road.
However, no one was interested and I had to put the site to one side as, frankly, I was finding it hard to dedicate time to it.
Then life caught up with me.
To be honest, I was considering closing the site down completely, but I do believe it has great potential as a musicians resource and hub, and I’m reluctant to let it go.
So here’s the deal.
While I’m going to keep the site live for now – the amount of activity will be fairly limited. In the meantime, I will continue to look for others who might be interested in writing the odd post or doing anything else that might be useful.
– If you are interested in becoming involved, or you know someone who might fit the bill – please get in touch either directly using the
I also think that the site needs a major revamp so I’ll be checking out how this can be best achieved.
While the site is getting some traffic, overall actual engagement is poor. This needs to be looked at.
As an elder lemon, I feel that the involvement of younger people who are more connected with the local music scene would help spice up the site and bring more energy to it.
A change in the look of the site may be on the cards.
Some of the facilities/resources are not really been utilised so we may simplify things.
Lots of spammers are signing up so they’ll need to be filtered out and blocked.
JukeboxConnect is going to be pretty quiet for the next while until I can sort out the way forward.
However, I will do my best to facilitate anyone who wants to use the platform to promote their own activities and events etc.
Engagement is at the heart of any website and this is especially true when it comes to JukeboxConnect. Using site resources and facilities, providing useful information, leaving comments, likes & shares etc. are all part of what makes a site work, so I encourage you to continue to engage with the site even while it is relatively inactive.
A Big Thanks
A big thanks to all those who have supported JukeboxConnect thus far.

Songwriters in the Round is a music project and initiative that showcases and provides an outlet for both local Cork singer-songwriters and touring artists from further afield as well as those of us who enjoy real music in a live setting.
The ‘In the Round’ concept originated in music hubs such as Nashville – the idea being to create a ‘sit and listen’ style event experience.
A Regular Event
It’s a fairly new initiative and the plan is to run this gig as a regular event.
This unique event will feature guest songwriters who will perform their songs in acoustic mode and share some of the stories and inspiration behind them.
Supporting Cork Music
One of the good things about this songwriter event is that the organisers firmly believe the artists should be financially rewarded for their efforts – even if it’s only a nominal amount.
Gigs for singer-songwriters are few and far between and rarely offer anything more than ‘exposure’ . This initiative is, therefore, a very positive development.
While there is a very healthy ‘original music’ scene in Cork – the truth of the matter is that local musicians involved in the creation of original music rarely make anything, moneywise, for their efforts.
If you are a fan of live music and would like to support Cork music then ‘Songwriters in the Round’ features some of the best of local songwriting talent and promises to be an excellent evening of entertainment.

Music and Craic in the Glen is the brainchild of John and Marie Corteen, husband and wife and life companions.
They are both accomplished musicians and are multi-instrumentalists along with being fine singers too.
These Liverpool natives perform together under the name of ‘Free Spirit Ceol’ which kind of describes them to a tee – a free spirited and musical loving pair who long ago decided to make Ireland their home from home.
After coming across the picturesque village of Glengarriff on their travels, it has become a musical haven for them ever since.
They decided to put this event together from their love of music and a love of people.
In John and Marie’s own words ‘it’s a place to meet old friends and make new ones’
